2 Days Kilimanjaro Trek via Marangu Route
Kilimanjaro Marangu Route is the eldest route on Mount Kilimanjaro, it is also known as the Coca Cola Route. You may have heard that of all routes to Mount Kilimanjaro, Marangu route is the simplest, the cheapest and the most popular route.
Day 1: Marangu Gate (elevation 6000 ft) – Mandara Hut (elevation 9,000 ft)
Habitat: Montane forest.
Hiking/Ascent time: 4 – 5 hours.
After breakfast at your hotel in Moshi/Arusha, drive to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (about a 1-hour drive from Moshi town), then register at KINAPA headquarter and start the climb.
Walkthrough the rainforest to Mandara encampment, which is a side trip to Maundi Crater as the best way to see the surroundings of North Tanzania. In the rainforest, look for Colobus monkeys, birdlife, and towering Eucalyptus trees. Dinner and overnight should be taken at Mandara hut.
Day 2 – Mandara Huts – Horombo Huts (elevation 3700 m/12140 ft)
Habitat: Montane forest.
Departure from the openings of the rainforest and follow an ascending trail on the open moorlands to the Horombo encampment.
Views of the summit of the Mount Kilimanjaro and Mawenzi are mind-blowing. Look for giant lobelias and groundsels. After lunch at Mandara, hike back to the park gate and drive back to Moshi (about 1 hour).
