Mount Meru Trekking – 3 Days 2 Nights

The best for acclimatisation before climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Meru is the third highest peak mountain in Africa and it is the second uppermost mountain in Tanzania at elevation of 4,568m high. This mountain is located inside Arusha National Park, this prime location gives tourist the chance to spot some of the wildlife that inhabits the area.

Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

We drive from Arusha/Moshi to Momella Gate. We register at the gate and after registration the walk will commence with full armed ranger accompanying us, simply we can see along the way the wild animals including zebras, elephants, monkeys, antelope, and giraffe often elephants along the route. Dinner and overnight night at Miriakamba Hut.

Habitat: Montane Forest.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

The walk from Miriakamba Hut to the saddle below Little Meru is a short day but a steep climbing. The walk will take gradually along the ridge for a spectacular view of the mount Meru Crater and the impressive Ash Cone. After lunch at Saddle Hut we can make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820m) for superb views just before sunset.

Day 3: Saddle Hut to Summit of Mount Meru 4,568m

We start as early as around 1:00 am climbing steeply to Rhino Point (3,800m.) and on to Cobra Point (4350m). We reach the summit (4,566m) for sunrise there is a possibility to see Mount Kilimanjaro above the clouds. The final part of the climbing is along a spectacular narrow ridge-line between the sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer wall of the crater. We take a short rest and brunch at Saddle Hut prior to descending to the Momella gate.

A vehicle will meet you at Momella Gate to drive you back to your hotel in Arusha/Moshi.
