No there are no prisoners on Zanzibar’s Prison Island. It was given the name because it was once used to quarantine those infected with yellow fever. Today, the island hosts massive tortoises that have gained the attention of tourists from all over the world. Prison Island is easily accessible with a 30-minute boat ride from Stone Town.
